After an impressive rally off its lows for Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), it helped lead tech out of an early rout on Tuesday. Unsurprisingly, that gave a big boost to stocks on the day. Any surprise we’re starting with Netflix as our first trade?

M&A activity has been big part of the global market for the past few years now, and that’s likely to continue. Tax reform has freed up more cash and made potential targets more accretive. The economy is humming along. And in a few key sectors — consumer goods and media come to mind — there’s an obvious logic behind consolidation.

In the last five trading days, telecom stocks declined initially but recovered steeply thereafter, only to partially lose ground later in the week due to the still looming trade war fears with China. The on-again off-again trade war between the United States and China continued to keep the stocks in hot water as both the warring nations vowed to impose tariffs and retaliatory tariffs on each other.

Last week, we received another less than stellar earnings report from BlackBerry (BB). Revenues fell to a new low under CEO John Chen, and that was despite significant near term help from dying legacy businesses. The company again showed a large operating loss, and management continued to sit on its cash pile. As the results have not show tremendous long term improvement, it is time for leadership to step up.
