General Electric’s executives are getting reacquainted with the joys of commercial air travel. But the decision by the company’s new chief executive to cut the use of company-owned jets may pay off in symbolism rather than performance. (14-0)

US Crude Oil Rigs Were Flat Last Week

4h marketrealist
Baker Hughes, a General Electric company, published its US crude oil rigs report on November 17, 2017. It reported that US oil rig counts were flat at 738 on November 10–17, 2017. The rigs rose 63.3% from the same period in 2016. US crude oil (OIL) (USO) (UCO) prices were trading near a 30-month high. Higher oil prices help oil producers (XLE) and drillers (XES) like Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO), Transocean (RIG), Halliburton (HAL), and Matador Resources (MTDR). (41-0)

The 10-Point. - WSJ

An unusual shakeout at General Electric will remove many long-term associates of former Chief Executive Jeff Immelt from the board, aiming to create one more closely aligned with CEO John Flannery’s streamlining strategy. Half of GE’s 18 directors will lose their seats, while three new members will be added to form a 12-member board. The housecleaning shows the depths of the problems that developed on the board’s watch, prompting investors and analysts alike to question its oversight of management. (14-0)

A Short Burst Of Corporate Earnings Reports On Tap Before The Thanksgiving Feast

13h seekingalpha
With the close of last week, we are now halfway through the current quarter and, thus far, it's been another positive one for the stock market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite Index are up 4.3% to 4.5%, while the S&P 500 lags behind, but still with a gain of just under 2.5%. Of course, the thing to keep in mind, those quarter to date returns were predicated on strong performance in October, which has ceded ground during the first half of November. (96-1)

Victory Formation Long/Short Portfolio Update - November 2017

I have made some changes this week to my long/short portfolio example listed on Wall Street Survivor. I have basically reduced the long S&P 500 ETF exposure in exchange for some regular individual company longs, covered a few shorts in favor of better scoring ideas, and traded the long Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) position for Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) shares. The net-long posture has been reduced closer to net-neutral as a result of the shuffling, after subtracting the precious metals hedge stake. (628-1)

When all is said and done about General Electric’s recently announced historic restructuring—and why the 125-year-old behemoth kept aviation as one of its three core business units— observers may be able to explain it in just two words: additive manufacturing. “We had what I would consider a real point of understanding, the epiphany of disruption associated with additive, as we were working through it on Leap,” says David Joyce, GE vice chair and CEO and .
