KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 17): The FBM KLCI slipped at mid-morning today in line with the retreat at most regional markets, weighed by index-linked blue chips. At 10.01 a.m., the FBM KLCI fell 5.85 points to 1,621.78. The top losers included British American Tobacco (M) Bhd, Tasek Corp Bhd, Public Bank Bhd, AirAsia Bhd, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Bhd, Heineken Malaysia Bhd, Hong Leong Industries Bhd, UMW Holdings Bhd and Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd.

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): Kian Joo Can Factory Bhd’s net profit rose 11.9% to RM39.49 million or 8.89 sen a share in the second quarter ended June 30, 2016 (2QFY16), from RM35.28 million or 7.95 sen a share a year ago, on higher revenue.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Alcom disclosed that Yeoh, who is the controlling shareholder of Towerpack, had proposed to buy 79.23 million Alcom shares for RM47.72mil or 61 sen a share in an all-cash deal. Yeoh already owns majority stakes in three separate listed entities. He holds a 32.9% stake in aluminium packaging manufacturer Kian Joo Can Factory Bhd and 54.83% in Box-Pak (M) Bhd via his interests in the former.
Alcom has become a major supplier of fin stock for many of the world’s leading air-conditioner manufacturers.
