According to a research by Markets and Markets, the lithium ion battery market is expected to be valued at USD 68.97 Billion by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 16.6% over the forecast period. The growth of this market largely attributed to the demand for rechargeable batteries, which are now widely used as a power source for electric vehicles. The report indicates that the implementation of lithium ion batteries in the automotive sector for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) helps to improve the efficiency and reduce the maintenance cost of the vehicle.
Welcome to the March 2017 cobalt miner news. The focus will be on the cobalt miners that are in, or reasonably near, production, as well as featuring a few promising juniors each month. For a background on the cobalt miners, investors can read my earlier articles:

A critical point to understand when investing in cobalt companies is the impact of associated metals such as copper and nickel (or molybdenum) prices have on the cobalt producer.
Many experts see cobalt as the next critical element set to boom. The cobalt price has risen about 50% so far this year.
There are expected to be 6 companies by end 2017 selling long range (>150 mile) all electric EVs for under USD 37,500.
The energy storage boom has most likely already started, and we are in the very early stages, where investors can profit most.
The lithium-ion battery requires lithium, cobalt and graphite. All three of these critical elements will likely go into supply shortage or deficit due to rapid rising demand from the electric vehicle industry in the coming years, as you can read about here.
